The new institute began its activities on the basis of the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated September 2, 2020 No. 536 “on the organization of the activities of the Uzbek National Institute of Musical Art named after Yunus Rajabi".
The main tasks and activities of the Institute are the training of highly qualified specialists in the field of performing and Bakhchisarai art in accordance with the needs of culture .In this regard, the department “History and Theory of Uzbek Makom” has been established at the Uzbek National Institute of Musical Art named after Yunus Rajabi since September 3, 2020.
In the 2023-2024 academic year, the total staff of the department is 12.75 full-time employees (a total of 10 teachers work in these states), of which 9 full-time employees are basic, and 3.75 full-time employees are on a permanent basis.

The average age of the members of the department is 35 years.
The scientific potential is 30% due to teachers in the main staff.
The department has a system of ”Ustoz-shogird", the teaching staff conducts large-scale musical and theoretical systematic work with young personnel, educational and spiritual and educational work. In addition, special attention is paid at the department to the issue of publication by teachers of scientific and methodological work, textbooks and textbooks, scientific articles.
Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated July 27, 2017 No. PP-3151 “On measures to further expand the participation of industries and sectors of the economy in improving the quality of training of specialists with higher education”, Based on the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated May 7, 2018 No. PP-3698 ”on improving the mechanisms for introducing innovations in the industry and the economy “in order to ensure the continuity of the integration of science with education and production, the Department of Social and Humanitarian Sciences of the Tashkent State Academy of Choreography, together with the Department of Social and Humanitarian Sciences of the Tashkent State Academy of Choreography, together with Kyrgyzstan, develop and implement understanding, the art of music, in order to establish cooperation in the field of musicology and music education, agreements have been signed with Osh State Pedagogical University on innovative cooperation and established links.
The teaching staff of the department participates in scientific and theoretical conferences, scientific and creative seminars held within the framework of cooperation.
Research activity at the department ”History and theory of Uzbek Makom” is considered as the main direction determining the prospects of the department. In 2023-2024, the main research topic of the department is the topic ”Studying the theory of the history of Uzbek music and educating the younger generation in the spirit of national music”.
The scientific research carried out within the framework of the main scientific research topic is defined by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 5, 2018 No. PQ3775 “On additional measures to improve the quality of education in higher education institutions and restore their active participation in the large-scale reforms carried out in the country”, as well as by the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers dated September 2, 2020 No. 3775 “On amendments to Resolution 536 “On the organization of the activities of the Uzbek National Institute of Musical Art". - Proceeding from the main topic of the department, in order to popularize the research of the teaching staff within the framework of scientific research and to identify mutual scientific discussions between the teaching staff of the department, scientific and theoretical seminars, master classes, creative meetings are regularly held. - - The priority directions of the research activity of the department are: - - carrying out research works within the framework of the approved comprehensive topic of the department, discussing research works, recommending publication and putting their results into practice, ensuring effective integration of education, science and production; - - preparation and publication of scientific, scientific and methodological publications, textbooks, educational and methodological developments, monographs; - - establishment of work on applied research in the priority scientific direction of the department; - scientific cooperation with related institutions and organizations; - -participation in scientific-theoretical, practical conferences, seminars; - organization of scientific and creative activities of students on a systematic basis, attracting gifted students to research work, creating the necessary organizational, methodological and logistical conditions for the implementation of their scientific and creative activities; - constant monitoring of the continuous replenishment and updating of the information resource center of the Institute with new educational, scientific, technical and periodical literature in educational areas and specialties of the department.
